Single Sign On

February 5th, 2009 · No Comments

For those of us in the IT world, it seems like single sign on (SSO) is the holy grail of technology. It looks like we’re finally going to get another step closer with the ShoreTel IP PBX system. The upcoming release supports a uni-directional integration with Active Directory that allows the Call Manager application to query AD to check user credentials. For most everyone out there managing a ShoreTel system, this will make addition of new users to the ShoreTel somewhat easier in that adding a user will consist of checking a box and filling in the user’s AD name which will cause the remainder of available data that AD contains to be populated into the ShoreTel Director automagically.

We’re in the process of testing this capability in our production environment currently and it looks to be promising once all of the kinks are worked out. Hopefully I’ll be able to post soon as to when we should expect this to come out of beta and be available to end-users. Stay tuned, there are a lot of other new and exciting features coming to a ShoreTel system near you.
